TIMKEN | PRECISION DRIVES
More Than Motion Components
The most advanced automation systems require more than a single technology. They demand the seamless integration of precision gearing, motion feedback, controls, and system expertise.
Timken Precision Drives brings together complementary motion technologies to help engineers solve complex positioning, tracking, and motion control challenges. By combining strain wave gearing, cycloidal gearing, planetary gearing, and encoder technologies, we help enable the performance, precision, and reliability required in today’s most demanding applications
Because today’s motion challenges often require more than a single component.

Interactive Motion Tracking Demonstration
To illustrate how multiple technologies work together within a single system, Timken Precision Drives developed an interactive motion tracking demonstration inspired by optical ground station (OGS) applications used in satellite communications.
Optical ground stations rely on highly accurate positioning systems to establish and maintain communication with satellites. Similar to these systems, our demonstration challenges users to rapidly and precisely track changing targets using coordinated motion control and real-time position feedback.
How the Challenge Works
Players use the control interface to direct a laser beam toward illuminated targets positioned around the display.
As each target lights up, the goal is to quickly move the beam onto the corresponding sensor. The faster and more accurately targets are acquired, the higher the score.
Participants have 60 seconds to hit as many targets as possible, highlighting the importance of precision gearing, responsive motion control, and accurate position feedback in dynamic tracking applications.
